Crater Lake National Park
Location: 140 miles southeast of Eugene, Oregon
Features: Lake
Crater Lake National Park is a very fascinating place. The lake is deeply blue and with a depth of approximately 1800 feet (600 m) the deepest lake of the states. It was created only 7700 years ago by an explopsion of Mt. Mazama. The rest of this volcano filled up with water during the centuries so that the lake got its final form 4000 years ago.
There is a circle road around the lake from where you have nice views. In winter it's supposed to be a good cross country skiing area, since it's at an altitude of almost 6000 feet (1900 m).
